Dreamcatcher Ranch
Ranch Staff
Camp director and instructor, Carol Saulsberry, has over 30 years experience as a rider and trainer. Carol worked as a Pony Club District Commissioner for 4 years in New Hampshire and 8 years as an event organizer and instructor for United States Pony Club while her three children were active members as well as showing.
Carol continued teaching the values and instructional approach of Pony Club to her private students as a trainer in Orange County, CA for eight years prior to moving to Dreamcatcher Ranch. Some of these 22 students continue to seek instruction at camp with Carol and hope someday to become assistant trainers at the camp.
Carol holds a Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy with a minor in Child Psychology. She is also a certified Equine Massage Therapist and has instructed and certified other students in the field since 1994. In 1990, she competed Level I Certification in Equine Assisted Growth and Learning as an equine specialist, and has completed Level II training.
Camp Administrator and co-owner, Joan Fuquay, is available to assist you with questions via phone or e-mail: dreamcatcheranch@aol.com. She is very busy keeping up with all the important aspects behind running this camp program successfully; updating the web site, cooking during camp, some counselor and CIT training, and some of the camp programs, as well as the accounting and budgeting. Joan holds a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling Psychology. She has also completed Level II Training in Equine Assisted Growth and Learning, a program that uses horses for team building which is implemented during camp to help create a more cohesive bond among the campers as well has build group spirit.
Both Carol and Joan are members of The American Camp Association (ACA) ( http://www.acacamps.org). They attended the Basic Camp Directors Course offered by the ACA and the ACA Conferences in February of 2003 and 2004. At the conferences they learned many new exciting things about the entire youth camp experience and made many new contacts in the field.
In 2005 Carol and Joan attended the Girl's Circle facilitator training. We learned many new skills and resources to promote girls' resiliency and connection by developing a safe community in a circle format. Because of the size and structure of our camps we believe we have responsibility as safe, caring adults to offer this additional program to enhance the camp experience. To learn more about Girls' Circles Association go to www.girlscircle.com on the web.
We are very happy to welcome a new instructor to the staff, Katy Personius. She joins us with great enthusiasm and over 30 years of equine experience, both in training horses and riding instruction. Currently she is one of the instructors for the local Pony Club, and does contract free-lance training for other trainers in this area. She has assisted in classrooms in the public schools, working in the creative arts programs and helping with fundraising for special events. Her passion is in working with horses and kids, with a dream come true, now combining both working at Dreamcatcher Ranch Girls Camp.
